What is buhurt?
Buhurt is a medieval combat sport where participants wear armors from the 13th to 15th centuries and engage in combat using swords, axes, maces, or polearms. Competitions are called 'tournaments' and participants fight either in 1v1 duels or melee (5v5, 12v12, 30v30). All weapons used are blunt, and strict safety rules are in place to prevent injuries. To be accepted in tournaments, both weapons and armor must adhere to historical sources.
What is profight?
Profight is a specific duel category of buhurt that allows participants to use not only their weapons but also their shields, fists, head, elbows, knees, and feet to attack their opponents. Wrestling and hitting the opponent on the ground is even allowed. It is often likened to 'MMA in armor.' Participants can use a wide range of weapons, from falchions to two handed axes. Similar to MMA, scoring is determined by three judges based on the points difference between the two fighters. Profight competitions feature various weight categories and can be contested as single combat or within pools and a final bracket, commonly referred to as 'dungeon cup' format. In the traditional version, matches consist of three rounds lasting 2 or 3 minutes each, with breaks of 1 or 1.5 minutes between rounds. In the 'dungeon cup' version, matches are shorter, comprising 2 rounds of 2 minutes each with a 1-minute break between.
What is melee?
Melee is the group combat category in buhurt, ranging from 5v5 to 30v30. The objective is to eliminate all members of the opposing team by putting them on the ground, i.e. with at least 3 support points touching the floor. This can be achieved through wrestling, charging, pushing, or striking opponents. Each match consists of two winning rounds, each lasting 2 minutes. To win, a team must either floor all their opponents or have more fighters standing at the end of a round than the opposing team. If one team has a 3 to 1 ratio or higher advantage in fighters left, this team directly wins the round. Tournaments often involve pool fights followed by a final bracket.
What is duel?
Duel is the 1v1 category where opponents use the same type of weapon. Participants are only allowed to strike with their weapon. There are currently four weapon types: Sword and Shield, Sword and Buckler, Two-Handed Sword, and Polearm. Matches typically comprise two rounds, each lasting 1-1.5 minutes, with a 30-45 second break between rounds. Tournaments often include pool fights and a final bracket.
What is soft buhurt?
Soft Buhurt is an alternative way to experience buhurt without the need for an expensive armor. It also allows children as young as 3 years old to participate in this sport. Soft Buhurt follows the same rules and categories as traditional buhurt (duel and profight), but it employs soft protection and swords made of plastic and foam. Tournaments are also organized within this category. Lots of buhurt fighters are also training this way, in addition to armor.

How are rankings made?
Profight rankings are based on classic ELO ranking, with some adjusment coefficients depending on the duration of the fight (2x2min, 3x2min, 3x3min, ...), the type of win (KO, unanimous, split, ...) and how long ago it took place. The other rankings are based on the official league rules, like buhurt international.
Why are some countries displayed as "Neutral" with a white flag?
Buhurt-ranking.com is a personal project that reflects our belief that sport, like everything else, has political dimensions. This is why, as a reflection of our personal values supporting peace, we have made an editorial decision regarding visual representation. Until conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza conclude, teams, clubs, and fighters from Russia and Israel will be displayed with: - A neutral white flag (🏳️) instead of national flags - "Neutral" designation instead of country name - No logos or pictures of fighters, teams or clubs All competitive results and statistics remain accurately recorded and displayed. This visual policy reflects our personal stance supporting peace and is not intended to diminish the achievements of individual fighters. When these conflicts reach resolution, we will promptly restore all national visual identifiers, flags, logos and pictures for all affected teams, clubs and fighters.
